The most awaited date for the Bottega is approaching, on July 7th we celebrate Pinocchio‘s birthday!
“Once upon a time, there was a King! No, my dear readers, you were wrong… Once upon a time there was a piece of wood.”
Thus began the first episode of the “Story of a puppet”, published in the “Giornale per i bambini” (Children’s Newspaper).
The piece of wood that becomes a child continues to celebrate together with the world of characters that surround him. With Pinocchio, the characters of a fairy tale have never been so close to us: Mastro Ciliegia and Geppetto, the Cat and the Fox, the Whale, the Blue Fairy, Lucignolo and the other donkeys, Mangiafuoco and then the School, the Court, the Prison. We feel him close to us, human as in the fairy tale he manages to be, imperfect … so imperfect that in the first ending thought by the author the story ends with his hanging! Readers’ protests then convinced Collodi to revise the closing, which needed another two years of work.
Articles celebrating its history and celebrations in honor of the most famous “burattino” in the world multiply, but it’s not really a “burattino”… it’s a “marionetta” that can move without strings.
